Periodontal disease is commonly called gum disease and this is known as the infected condition of the gums, the surrounding tissues, and the bones supporting the teeth. Gum disease is caused by the formation of plaque that adheres on the teeth where this whitish and sticky substance cause irritation even below the gums. Bacteria produce toxins that combine with saliva and food particles from starchy and sugary foods to form the plaque.

When plaque is not completely removed from the teeth with the practices of oral hygiene, this will harden and build up and turns into tartar. Tartar build up is harder to eradicate and requires professional cleaning by a dental professional. However, when the gum disease is still felt with mild symptoms like the one experienced in gingivitis, it is vital that these must be treated at once. When the symptoms are readily addressed, this will stop the disease from developing into something serious.

There are natural remedies to cure gingivitis and these are all helpful as treatments for the symptoms of gum disease especially in relieving the swollen and bleeding gums as well as stop the growth of bacteria. Aside from these natural remedies, it is also essential that one should practice good oral hygiene. The teeth should be brushed at least twice daily, flossed, and professionally cleaned. This is regarded as the best solution in preventing the onset of the disease and stops it from progressing into the more serious gum issues.

It is better to treat gingivitis naturally with the use of herbal toothpaste and mouthwash. Other people also find the use of mint as another efficient way to fight gingivitis. Another useful and proven effective of the natural remedies to cure gingivitis is clove oil. Aloe vera is also used wherein the aloe vera pulp is rubbed once in the affected parts of the mouth, rinsed with water, and this procedure repeated a few times during the day.

A mixture of one tablespoon of triphala powder with water as gargle is also a good practice for those suffering the symptoms of gum disease. You can also use a pinch of salt in warm water as gargle to be used twice a day. Cranberry juice without sugar is also effective as cure for gingivitis. Mouthwash containing peppermint oil, chamomile tincture, sage oil, and menthol can also work wonders for your gum condition as well as toothpaste containing peppermint and sage oil.

The diet for people with gingivitis should be one with low saturated fats, lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, and rich in fibre and Vitamin C. If the intake of foods with Vitamin C is insufficient, the diet can be supplied with Vitamin C supplements for maintaining healthy gums. Avoid the consumption of too sweet and sugary foods like syrups, soft drinks, and artificial fruit juices.

Good skin care is essential if you want to have a youthful look well into your golden years but that doesn’t mean that it has to cost an arm and a leg. Sure, you can pay for expensive creams and cleansers, go to spas for the latest skin care techniques, but there’s also a lot you can do that costs very little.

One of the most important things you can do to keep your skin looking great is to make sure that you don’t overexpose it to the sun. Either avoid the sun altogether or use a high SPF sunscreen if you will be out in the sun for longer than 15 minutes.

Another important thing you can do is make sure to remove your makeup every night. This costs basically nothing and only takes a few seconds. Use a gentle makeup remover like cold cream and don’t tug at your skin but gently pat away the makeup.

Exfoliating and moisturizing your skin is important and there are many products on the market for this. Some of these products can be very expensive but if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on wrinkle reducers, masks and moisturizers, here’s some great skin care tricks you can use that won’t cost you much – in fact, you probably have the ingredients for most of them right in your kitchen.

- Make an oatmeal paste out of 2 tbsp oatmeal, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 4 tbsp plain yoghurt, 1 tbsp chopped parsley, and 1 tsp olive oil. Massage this into the skin and let it stay on for about 5 minutes. This is a great treatment for irritated skin and works wonders if you have an oily complexion.

- Beat 1 egg into 2 tbsp of milk. Wash your skin with a gentle cleanser and dab the egg and milk mixture on your face. Leave on for 5 minutes and rinse with warm water.

- Remove blackheads by rubbing your skin with baking soda. You can also use this on your whole body for a smooth silky feeling – just rub on in the shower and rinse off.

- If you have oily skin rub fresh tomato on your face and rinse off immediately. Some people are sensitive to tomato so you might want to test a patch on your arm first before you try it on your face!

- If your skin is really dried out, try rubbing olive oil on it. This is a great natural moisturizer but can be a bit greasy so it might be best to rub in the olive oil and rinse your face in warm water. You could also try putting some olive oil in your bath to moisturize your whole body. Rubbing it on your body and washing it off in the shower is also an option, but be advised that this makes the shower floor VERY slippery and you will need to be careful and also be sure to clean out the shower thoroughly so the next person doesn’t slip.

-make a facial mask out of egg yolk mixed with honey, leave it on for 20 minutes, and rinse off. This is great for sensitive skin. Honey gives a tingling/ticklish sensation, so if you are sensitive to that, use the egg yolk alone. Egg yolk is also very effective for treating eczema – use it instead of soap.

- If your skin is dry try making an avocado mask – just mash up an avacado and smooth on your face. Let it sit for 20 minutes and then rinse off. Don’t be alarmed if you get some goes in your mouth by mistake because it makes a great healthy snack too!

Periodontal disease is more often caused by negligence of the early signs and symptoms. Dental experts recommend periodontal surgery to prevent advance periodontal or gum disease from progressing. Periodontal surgery aims to improve the condition of gums and restore damage gum tissues caused by gum infection or to improve the appearance of the gums having that healthy smile. Overall, periodontal surgery aims to bring back the healthy smile that has been damaged by gum infection. At the first sign of gum disease, condition must be reported to the dentist for proper diagnosis and treatment. The periodontist or dentist then may recommend a periodontal surgery as needed

Red, tender, puffy, swollen and gums that bleeds easily especially during brushing are the manifestations that gum infection is taking its place. Gum infection can lead to periodontal disease and periodontitis, and when left unchecked they can cause destruction of gums and tooth and even tooth loss at its worst case. Persistent bad breath, bleeding and swollen gums can be experienced when gum infection is left untreated and bacteria is not eliminated. Bacteria as the leading cause of gum infection can spread over the entire body system and can trigger the development of certain medical conditions.

Gum infection treatment is necessary to prevent further progression of the condition. Treatment mat be done at home if condition is on its early stage, however if condition is already serious it should be administered by your dental care professional. Periodontal surgery may even be recommended depending on the severity of the condition. But it is really important to have your dental condition checked by your dentist.
